There is a very significant shortage of personnel to fill the home caregiver positions. These are the individuals who provide personal assistance in the homes of elderly and disabled people. Without their services, institutionalization is inevitable. This problem will snowball over the next 12 years due to a 7% shift of our population into the older than 65 category.
The upcoming shift from a younger population into an older one, will compound the caregiver shortage. Relatively speaking, there will be 7% fewer younger people, (from whom the caregiver position is primarily manned), and a 7% increase of the older population, who are chiefly the ones needing personal assistance services.
