Please help us live independently in our community!  This is the plea of those who live in institutions or are threatened with institutionalization.  Your voice is desperately needed to affect the course of our state Medicaid system.  Together, we can speak and be heard. 

You can contact Governor Gibbons’ office.  It looks like he’s the only one who might listen to this plea to protect our homecare resources for Nevada’s elderly and disabled people.  In contacting the Governor by phone or by e-mail, express your concerns about the adverse effects of eliminating Independent caregivers.

· You might mention that the independent caregiver option seems cost-effective and that it should be further developed,  not destroyed.

· You feel it’s important not to pull the rug out from under disabled people who depend on their existing caregivers.

· Let him know you're in favor of developing homecare resources before the shortage of caregivers results in the institutionalization of our elderly or disabled persons.
